Rule #73 - It’s Not Who You Know

We’ve all heard the old adage: “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”

This just isn’t true. We live in a world where “knowing” someone can be the click of a button. Even though you might never have spoken to one another you’re listed as a contact. Sorry, people do business with people they know, and some things will never change.

So really, it’s not who you know, it’s who knows you.

If my contact remembers my name, the way I shook her hand, the opportunities we spoke of, all of a sudden it becomes real. She no longer thinks of me as a picture on social media. I’m a person she has actually spoken with.

Make sure your friends know who you are. If it’s the other way around, you might have a hard time getting business.
